Boracay PubCrawl: A Taste of the Island Night Life

June 16, 2016Boracay, City, Philippines, Travel GuidesNo CommentsJustin Vawter

You know what they say, “what happens in Boracay, stays in Boracay”. After all, what’s a visit to Boracay without some vodka and tequila. If there’s one thing that Boracay is popular (aside from its pristine white sand and beach of course) is the night life and party scene. From station 1 to 3, most especially station 2 where most bars are located, life starts after sunset. While I’m not really the party kind of guy, I actually prefer silence, books  and coffee which I know is kinda boring to others, but hey I’m in Boracay. You know that if there’s something you shouldn’t miss it’s the part-ay!

TURN STRANGERS INTO FRIENDS

Boracay

One popular event in the island is the Boracay Pub Crawl. It’s just basically bar hopping but with a twist. Staying true to their tagline “turning strangers into friends”, here the only thing that’s considered a huge sin is drinking alone.

The party starts around 7:30 pm. You are given a free shirt which you can customize,  a baller, coupon stubs and a shot glass. Rules are simple: you’ll be visiting 5 bars, play some games and yes, drink all night. However you must not be caught drinking alone. Before getting your shot, you must tap the shoulder of one friend or stranger. Kinda horrible for a bit introvert like me but here you’ll be forced to talk to one another and meet new set of friends which is pretty awesome. Also, never mind the photos since they have an in-house photographer and you can check the photos on their Facebook page.

GAMES & PARTY

Boracay

It’s all about drinking right? Nope. One great thing about the Boracay PubCrawl is that it’s never boring. They have all sort of games prepared where you can interact and party with other guests. One game even ties you to two other strangers and the only way to remove that tie is to name at least 3 common things you guys share. Here I met Chit who happens to be living in the subdivision next to our old house (what a coincidence!) and Maria, this mid 40s aunt from California who brought her entire family to the island. She was a charm! She was so fun to be with, super hyper and I just love talking to her.

Here you’ll meet a lot of people. From the guys from Puerto Rico to the ladies who work in Makati, you’ll find yourself living in the zone. I was talking and dancing non-stop. Never mind who’s watching. We are in Boracay. We’re gonna have the best night of our life!

GETTING WASTED

I don’t consider myself a heavy drinker but whenever I drink, I drink hard. I have a high tolerance for alcohol (I think?) but drinking all night long, shot after shot, can make you pretty wasted. By the end of the party, I stayed near the beach front and lied down feeling the soft, cold sand. There were no stars but it was nice staring at the dark sky. The smell of the sea breeze lingers. It was the perfect way to end the night. (note: I didn’t sleep on the beach! haha)

Happy New Year guys! ❤✨ #2021
This year was a tough one. I lost my job and I had This year was a tough one. I lost my job and I had to go back home. I wasn't able to travel. I had to take a break from social media. I had to cut ties with people. I had to seek professional help for my mental health. However, despite those struggles, I have to say that this year forced me to take huge risks and it was worth it. I launched my own studio, Studio Vawter, and the business is doing really well. I reconnected and decided to keep only those who truly matter to me. I am now prioritizing myself above anyone else. I no longer crave other people's validation.

This may not be my favorite year but it reminded me to always stay grounded and be grateful. Tomorrow, we'll enter 2021 and I look forward to better things. I hope the same goes for you. Ikaw, what's your #TapangnaDisusuko story? #NescafeOriginal

Last month, I received a call from our hr telling Last month, I received a call from our hr telling me that I'm one of the employees that'll be laid off due to the pandemic. Last in, first out. I was kinda expecting it coz I'm basically on a no-work-no-pay setup since April. It was a rough time. I was emotionally unstable, bills were piling up, I'm basically a bum for 3 months taking on small projects just to sustain my daily living. I was hitting rock bottom. After that call, I knew I had to get my shit together.

The next day, I received some good news. I got 3 of my biggest contracts this year for #StudioVawter. I worked tirelessly and it's not always a happy episode. There were days where I had to work double time and sometimes that means no holidays. But working on my own studio was extremely fun. In just 6 months, I was able to exceed my annual salary back when I was working in the corporate world. But that also means more stress and more bills, I had to invest on new stuff, I had to study harder, I had to sacrifice a lot to reach where I am now.

Today, I'm just grateful to the Universe!! What's the point of this point? Wala, gusto ko lang iflex na nakabili na ako sa wakas ng ipad and apple pencil!!! Tagal kong pinagipunan to mga bes. Hahahaha! Supposed to buy the pro 2020 but realized that air 3 was a better and more cost-effective option.

But yeah, life can be tough but trust the Universe. It's always gonna guide you in the right path. Also, when life gives you lemons, don't just make a lemonade. Build a fucking lemonade stand!! ✨
May you always find peace within yourself. Good mo May you always find peace within yourself. Good morning from Studio Vawter! ✨

Funny how fast time flies by. Exactly two years ag Funny how fast time flies by. Exactly two years ago today, I finished my week-long backpacking trip in Butuan-Surigao-Dinagat Island-Siargao. I remember how it feels to live that carefree life. Looking back, I can't believe I was able to do all those things. I was able to travel while working and studying full time. It was a fun time.

Now, things have completely changed. I'm stuck in my room working on a design studio I recently started. Do I have any regrets? Definitely none. I knew that one day, things would change and these will just be memories I'm going to share. My life lesson: keep on creating memories. No matter what do you, create them. Because one day you'll look back and finally say, it was all worth it. ✨
