It’s almost Valentine’s day and almost everyone is preparing for it. Whether you’ll be celebrating it with your significant other or best friends (that’s me! who say’s you have to be alone on v-day just because you’re single?), there’s a lot of places you could go to and one of them is Saboten in Serendra, Bonifacio Global City. A Japanese Cutlet restaurant, Saboten is the perfect place to have your tonkatsu and tempura.
The interior is just so cool for me. It’s so cozy and the ambiance gives you a feel of Japan while having that western influence infused to it. And do you know that almost everything is imported from Japan even the wallpapers just to give you an authentic Japan experience?
Our meal starts with the traditional appetizer. Tea, cabbage, cucumber and singkamas. And then there’s a small bowl filled with sesame seeds. You have to crush them first so that the flavor and aroma would come out and then you’ll add the tonkatsu sauce which is the best sauce (no kidding!) I’ve tried so far. It’s just soooo good. We were even joking around since Ms. Michelle told us that some customers pour them over rice and treat it like some kind of soup (gravy!!) and I said that I would even do it. That’s how good it is.
The Valentine’s Special
Their Saboten Katsu Sharing Set (Php 1,030++). This is perfect for Valentine’s day. If you try to look at it, you might think that it’s quite expensive considering that it’s basically two piece of prawn tempura, tonkatsu and rolled cutlets but don’t be deceived by it. It’s really heavy! They have large servings and this can make you go full in no time. And I must say that their breading is perfect. One of the crispiest I’ve had. Not a fan of the meat tho since they’re a bit dry for me but aside from that, it’s perfect for a couple (or for you alone).
The Saboten Katsu Sharing Set consists of:
Prawn Tempura
Tonkatsu
Cutlet Loin
Cutlet Crab Cream Croquette
and 2 pairs of rolled cutlets (your choice of: asparagus, ham and cheese and plum)
Lemonade
Watermelon Wasabi (Php 175)
To be honest, I was kinda hesitant to order this shake since I hate wasabi. We’re not good friends. But since I’m an adventurous person, I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed. The words I said upon trying it was it’s really weird, but in a good way. I didn’t expect it to compliment one another. It was refreshing with a spicy kick at the end.
Strawberry Parfait (Php 195)
Ripe Mango and Passion Fruit (Php 195)
Vanilla and Green Tea ice cream with honey syrup (Php 75)
Matcha Lychee Almond Cake (Php 210)
Sesame Sansrival Cake
Choco Hazelnut Cake
Their desserts were created in perfection! Totally love everything especially the hazelnut. It’s not too sweet, just the perfect kind.
