Breakfast is the most important meal. As a person who is slowly getting into fitness, I am now very concerned with what I eat. I have always been insecure with my body. Would you believe that I am currently malnourished based on my Body Mass Index (BMI). I fall shortly from the normal BMI. Because of this, over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been very conscious with whatever I eat and I have learned that breakfast is a make or break thing to your diet.
In the national nutrition survey conducted by the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) in 2013, it revealed that 6 out of 10 Filipino households suffer from poor nutrition. Obesity has a 30% prevalence rate while chronic energy deficiency continues to afflict 10% of adults.
Last April 30, I am glad to be part of the launch of Energen‘s Healthy Breakfast Movement at Baranggay Commonwealth, Quezon City. The movement aims to educate and encourage families to appreciate the importance of a healthy and nutritious breakfast to start their day right.
Energen, in cooperation with the Department of Health League of Registered Nutritionists and Dieticians, has been actively supporting and educating Filipino Families about the importance of having a healthy breakfast through feeding programs and community-based activities. This includes a Breakfast Supplementary Feeding Program in Minalin, Pampanga where Energen has been instrumental in improving the weight and nutrition of malnourished children.
The Healthy Breakfast Movement will also travel to Cebu City (Barangay Tinago Sports Complex) on May 21 and Davao City (Davao City Recreational Center – Almendras Gym) on May 28.
